The City of Lakewood is set to begin its seasonal Christmas tree recycling program starting Friday, December 26, providing an environmentally friendly disposal option for local residents. According to the City of Lakewood, Lakewood’s Greenhouse at 9556 W. Yale Ave. will serve as the drop-off location from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily until Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Residents looking to responsibly get rid of their holiday trees can do so at no cost. All trees must, however, be free of wire, ornaments, nails, and tinsel before being recycled, the city stresses. Unfortunately for those with spruced-up wreaths, garlands, tree limbs, or contracted tree removals, those items will not be accepted as part of this service.
Lakewood has made this initiative a hassle-free way for citizens to contribute to a more sustainable holiday aftermath. Not only does the program prevent trees from ending a journey in the landfill, but it also offers mulch generated from the recycled trees, upon request, a boon for local gardeners and anyone wanting to give back to the Earth.
This annual recycling effort is for Lakewood residents exclusively and aims to encourage a greener community. The Lakewood’s Greenhouse location, nestled between Estes and old Kipling streets, can be easily spotted by following the posted signs to the designated tree drop area. So, if you're from Lakewood and have a Christmas tree to part with, consider swinging by to quickly shed it off for a good cause.
