Early Monday morning, the calm of a Lakewood business district was shattered when a man was fatally shot by police officers. The incident occurred around 3:32 a.m. at a location near the Best Buy store on West Alaska Drive, cited by both 9News and Denver7. Responding to reports of trespassing, Lakewood Police officers encountered a man on the property who allegedly displayed a gun. In the ensuing confrontation, police say they discharged their weapons, striking the man. He was then transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
The identity of the man has not been publically released, pending notification of his family. Authorities have stated that neither of the two officers involved were injured during the incident. As part of standard procedure, these officers have now been placed on administrative leave.
