The Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department has unveiled a winter break camp designed for children from kindergarten through fifth grade, providing a blend of indoor and outdoor activities, arts, and crafts, and games intended to keep kids active during the school hiatus. Slated to commence on Dec. 23, the camp will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., continuing across selected dates including Dec. 24, Dec. 27, Dec. 30, Dec. 31, Jan. 2, and Jan. 3, with a closure on Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1, recognizing the holiday celebrations.
According to the City of Las Cruces, the cost for participants stands at $20 per child, expected at the time of registration, a fee that covers both breakfast and lunch on each day of attendance. Furthermore, kids are urged to bring a reusable water bottle and are enlisted the comfort of a pillow and blanket for rest time, suggesting a thoughtful consideration of the children's daily needs. Affordability and accessibility seem to be the targets here, as the camp's organizers strive to balance cost with convenience for local families.
There are two available locations where the camp will take place, at Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E. Hadley Ave., and at the WIA Building, 340 N. Reymond St. Both venues aim to cater to the varying needs of the Las Cruces community, providing a choice for better geographical convenience. This approach denotes a clear effort to accommodate the differing logistical requirements of participating families.
Parents interested in securing a spot for their offspring can initiate the registration process starting on Monday, Dec. 9, with the commencement window remaining open until all available spaces are claimed. Online registration can be completed through the Out-of-School Time link, or in person during regular business hours at various locales including the Parks and Recreation Department Administrative Office and the Meerscheidt Recreation Center, among others. This flexibility in registration medium offers parents multiple avenues to ensure their child's enrollment in the program.
