UNLV will expand its Chinese language and culture programs with a $15 million donation from Las Vegas Sands. The Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents approved the creation of the Sands Institute for Chinese Language and Culture. The donation aims to promote global understanding and cultural exchange. "This partnership with UNLV reflects our dedication to global engagement and cultural exchange," said Sands CEO Robert Goldstein, according to News 3 LV.

The funding will support Mandarin language courses, cultural events like film screenings and art exhibits, and student and faculty exchanges. As Goldstein said in a statement to 8 News Now, "The Sands Institute for Chinese Language and Culture at UNLV will serve as a vital resource for students, scholars, and the broader community to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of China."

UNLV President Keith E. Whitfield emphasized the university's focus on cultural diversity and its excitement about the new Sands Institute. "This fits right in with what we're all about – giving our students and community opportunities to learn about the world and connect with people from different backgrounds," Whitfield told News 3 LV. The institute is part of Las Vegas' plan to strengthen its global presence in tourism and business by addressing cultural and language barriers. It will be located in the renovated Maryland Administrative Building at UNLV, offering modern facilities for students and the community.
