A fatal collision occurred on Monday morning at the intersection of South Valley View Boulevard and West Blue Diamond Road in Las Vegas. A Peterbilt tractor-trailer struck a bicyclist around 7:36 a.m., resulting in the bicyclist's death. As stated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, this incident marked the city's 150th traffic-related fatality of the year.
The investigation into the collision, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, found that the bicyclist was traveling west on Blue Diamond Road and entered the marked crosswalk. At the same time, a tractor-trailer, driven by 42-year-old Jose Castro of Las Vegas, was traveling southbound and allegedly turned right despite a solid red light. The truck struck the front right of the bicycle, resulting in the rider’s fatal injuries.
A male bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene after being involved in a crash with a tractor-trailer. His name is being withheld until family is notified. Investigators are looking into the cause of the accident with help from witnesses and surveillance footage. The driver of the truck stayed at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.
