Motorists traveling through the heart of League City may have noticed a transformation along FM 646, just west of I-45, where rows of new plants are being added to the medians. This is part of a larger beautification project covering FM 518, FM 2094, SH 96, the I-45 feeder roads, and adjacent detention ponds, according to the League City's announcement.

The initiative is a TxDOT-funded effort to not only to visually enhance the cityscape but also to introduce sustainable greenery capable of enduring both the oppressive Texas summer heat and the incessant fumes thrown up by heavy traffic. According to League City's announcement, the state transportation department is leading the charge in the construction work, which includes putting in place a dedicated irrigation system. In a collaboration with municipal planners, they decided to painstakingly select various trees, shrubs, and other plant species for this project.

This initiative focuses on both aesthetics and resilience, aiming to integrate nature with the urban environment. League City officials and TxDOT are working together to ensure the plants will thrive despite the challenges of the urban setting. The remaining medians are expected to be completed by late January or early February.
