Lewisville is adding a touch of green to the holiday season with a Christmas tree recycling program that runs from Dec. 2 to Jan. 10. Residents can give their live Christmas trees a second life by dropping them off at the Lewisville Lake Park, located on the corner of Lake Park Road and Turtle Trail. Aiming to reduce waste and extend the life of landfills, the initiative is a partnership between Keep Lewisville Beautiful and Lewisville Parks and Recreation.
But before dropping off trees, make sure they're bare; they must be free of all nails, wires, ornaments, lights, and tinsel. According to the City of Lewisville, this preparation helps create quality mulch, which will then become available to the public starting Dec. 26 through Jan. 31. Running through and recycling Christmas trees also saves money and provides useful compost.
And there's a bonus for garden enthusiasts and eco-friendly locals. Free mulch will be up for grabs at the same site where the trees are being collected. Anyone wanting mulch is advised to bring their own containers and shovels as the mulch is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. This eco-friendly mulch not only helps gardens grow but also contributes to the circle of sustainability efforts in Lewisville.
