The Visual Art League of Lewisville is kicking off the new year with its "Strictly Abstract" exhibition, a showcase dedicated to abstract artistry from local members. Set to illuminate the Lewisville Grand Theater from January 11 through February 1, fans of non-representational creativity can look forward to an array of imaginative pieces.
An opening reception is on the calendar for Saturday, Jan. 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Art Gallery of the theater, where art lovers can mingle and appreciate the works on display. According to a press release from the Visual Art League of Lewisville, via the City of Lewisville, "Awards will be announced at 8 p.m." For the talented creators involved, there's more than just prestige on the line – rewards include a $500 prize for First Place, $350 for Second, and $200 for Third, not to mention the four $100 Honorable Mentions and three additional accolades.
Those looking for an up-close and personal interaction with the artists won't want to miss the "Conversations with artists" session on January 26. Between 3 and 5 p.m., creators from the Visual Art League will divulge the inspiration and stories behind their abstract works. Attendees of this casual chat are in for intriguing tales – the successes, the flubs, and the fire that fuels these artists.
Strolling through the gallery won't cost a dime – admission is free. The doors are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and during any public event hosted at The Grand. The Visual Art League takes pride in being one of eight organizations blessed with municipal funds thanks to a city grant designed to enrich the local cultural scene.
