Leyenda Bar Sets Sights on New Location After a Decade in Cobble Hill, Kicks Off 'Sleyenda' Christmas in July Pop-UpSource: Google Street View

Cobble Hill's beloved pan-Latin cocktail bar, Leyenda, is on the move after more than ten successful years on Smith St. In a statement sourced by Eater, the Leyenda team expressed enthusiasm for the future, saying, "We're excited to share that after Leyenda’s 10th anniversary this May, we’ll be actively looking for a new place to call home." The reason for the move is clear: growth. Leyenda has simply outgrown its current digs, and the team is eager to find a larger space to continue serving both its local clientele and visitors.

This isn't Leyenda's only headline of late. The bar, known for its inventive approach to holiday celebrations, is introducing Christmas in July with a week-long event they're calling "Sleyenda." From July 15 to 21, the festive pop-up will immerse patrons in yuletide joy, featuring themed decorations, holiday tunes courtesy of Mariah Carey, and a lineup of seasonal cocktails. According to Time Out New York, offerings will include the tequila-infused Coquito Ho Ho and the Nutcracker Old Fashioned, plus the cooling Candy Striper, made with frozen cachaça.

It is apparent that Leyenda has mastered the art of creating a niche, not just in the physical space it occupies but also in the events it hosts. Moving locations is often a risky venture for any establishment, but Leyenda's ability to pull in a crowd with its Christmas in July celebration speaks to its strong place in the community's heart. The details of the anticipated relocation remain undisclosed, but there's a palpable excitement about the future of this woman-owned bar, which is part of a portfolio managed by co-owner Julie Reiner of other popular spots like Milady's in Soho.

As Leyenda seeks its new home, the team behind the bar remains focused on delivering unique experiences. Co-owner Ivy Mix is no stranger to the scene either, bringing her expertise to other endeavors such as the Crown Heights wine shop Fiasco! and the wine bar Whoopsie Daisy. With such a dynamic team, Leyenda’s future location is poised to be just as loved, if not more, than its original Smith Street spot, promising to keep the spirit of Leyenda—and Sleyenda—alive for years to come.
