Lockhart, Texas has been designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Music Office (TMO). According to an announcement on the Office of the Texas Governor website, this designation highlights the city’s potential for growth in music business-related economic development.

"Congratulations to the City of Lockhart on earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation," Governor Abbott stated on the announcement. Senator Judith Zaffirini and Representative Stan Gerdes also praised the city's vibrant music scene and growth potential. The certification ceremony will take place on January 3 during Lockhart's First Friday event.

The support extends beyond government officials to local businesses. Ronda Reagan, owner of The Pearl and a local music advocate, said on the announcement, "I opened The Pearl 9 years ago in January and started bringing artists to my stage immediately. Live music has grown with the addition of more businesses in our downtown historic district supporting it. With this designation making it official, Lockhart will be a star on the map as a Music Friendly Texas Community—a live music destination that will certainly attract more music lovers and musicians." Steven Collins of Troubadour Image + Sound also highlighted the potential for local talent to thrive.

With the Music Friendly designation, Lockhart joins 71 other Texas communities working to strengthen the local economy and cultural presence. Texas’s music industry contributes over $26 billion annually to the state’s economy and supports more than 192,000 jobs.

On January 3 at 5:00 PM, the official ceremony will take place at 107 North Main Street in Downtown Lockhart. For more information, Holly Malish, Director of Economic Development, is available by phone or email to provide details about Lockhart’s future as a cultural hub in Texas.
