Long Beach kids looking to stave off boredom during the school break have something to look forward to, thanks to Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM). Starting December 23, PRM is rolling out its Winter Fun Days, a free recreation initiative for local youth ages 5 through 12. The program is slated to run for select days between December 23, 2024, and January 3, 2025, and offers a range of activities, from sports to arts and crafts.

As reported on Long Beach's official website, pre-registration starts on Monday and is necessary for those wishing to participate. While parents will be pleased to catch a break during the holiday season, the kids will enjoy the freedom of the drop-in structure. This allows them to come and go at will, from noon to 5:00 P.M., under the watchful eyes of PRM staff at various Long Beach parks. The program will, however, not run on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

The lineup of parks partaking in the Winter Fun Days includes locales scattered throughout the city, such as Admiral Kidd Park, Bixby Park, and Whaley Park, among others. Each location will provide a space where children can dive into recreational fun, ensuring neighborhoods across Long Beach can access the festivities without traveling far from home.

For further details, including locations and operating hours, families are directed to the Winter Fun Days webpage. PRM's Community Information Officer, Jane Grobaty, is available for media inquiries and can be reached at 562.570.3233 or via her email at [email protected]. Long Beach also offers a variety of other PRM programs for the youth, meant to enrich lives through the power of play and community engagement, all of which can be explored at LBParks.org.
