Los Angeles resident and self-proclaimed club promoter and amateur musician, Fernando Castro Bazan, 33, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in a methamphetamine distribution ring. U.S. District Judge Daniel J. Calabretta handed down the sentence, according to a statement from the United States Attorney's Office.
Court documents reveal that Bazan was engaged in the sale and attempted sale of methamphetamine to an undercover officer on multiple occasions. A detailed account describes that he sent couriers to deliver significant quantities of drugs – 20 pounds on July 15, 2021, and five pounds on August 12, 2021. An attempt to sell another 30 pounds was interrupted when law enforcement seized 31 pounds of methamphetamine from the defendant’s stash house in September 2021.
The prosecution of Bazan was a coordinated effort involving the Drug Enforcement Administration, Tri-County Drug Enforcement Team, and several other law enforcement agencies. Alongside his activities in the Sacramento area, Bazan was arrested again on June 30, 2022, this time related to a federal case in San Diego involving a Tijuana-based drug trafficking organization. This case uncovered his strategy for recruiting college-aged drivers under the guise of lucrative and expense-free trips to Mexico, resulting in drug trafficking convictions for many of these individuals.
After Bazan's arrest on pretrial release, he remained in federal custody until pleading guilty to conspiracy and importation of methamphetamine. On May 17, 2024, Bazan received a 12-year prison sentence in San Diego, which will run concurrently with his most recent 15-year sentence. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adrian T. Kinsella led the prosecution efforts in the case that brought Bazan's drug trafficking activities to an end.
