Early Friday morning, commuters on the 60 Freeway in Hacienda Heights faced significant delays following a complete closure of the eastbound lanes due to a report of shots fired. According to the KTLA, the incident occurred near the 1100 block of 7th Avenue, close to a Denny's restaurant adjacent to the freeway.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to the call at approximately 6:48 A.M. Subsequently, a Sigalert was issued, advising motorists of delays that could last up to one hour. Traffic was impacted between Crossroads Parkway and 7th Avenue, deputies closed the eastbound lanes during the investigation and reopened them around 8:45 A.M., as per KTLA.
Aerial footage captured law enforcement vehicles amassed in the Denny's parking lot, which then spread to nearby neighborhoods as deputies searched. NBC Los Angeles detailed how deputies located the suspect, initially spotted between a wooden fence and the freeway wall, and took him into custody after deploying an armored SWAT vehicle to the scene.
The suspect's actions prompted authorities to close both sides of the freeway for about an hour, causing frustration for morning commuters, according to FOX LA. When the SWAT team eventually arrested the suspect shortly before 8:15 A.M., there was no immediate information available about possible victims or the reason behind the gunfire.
While the investigation is ongoing, authorities have yet to release additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident or the suspect's identity. As of now, it remains unclear if anyone was injured in the shooting, as stated by CBS News. The roadway has since been reopened, and law enforcement continues to investigate the events that led to this morning's freeway shutdown and subsequent arrest.
