Tragedy struck Reseda on a recent Friday night as a hit-and-run driver claimed the life of a 60-year-old pedestrian, prompting an urgent manhunt by Los Angeles police. The fatal incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Saticoy Street and Amigo Avenue. The victim, who has since been identified as a father of four, was leaving a bible studies group when struck by the vehicle, according to KTLA.
As per a report by NBC Los Angeles, a witness described seeing the car speeding away roughly estimated at 70 mph post-impact. Left at the scene was the witness, who chose to not be identified, and mentioned they were parked behind the victim's car when the horrifying event unfolded.
Neighbors in Reseda have voiced concerns over the traffic safety in the area. José Alvaca, a resident, noted that the speed of traffic and disrespect for the rules have been ongoing issues. Unfortunately, on that fateful night, such concerns culminated in a most dire outcome, with the victim's family arriving at the site to join police under the canopy shielding the late pedestrian, KTLA reported.
The Los Angeles Police Department has not yet provided a detailed description of the suspect or their vehicle at the time, but the LAPD Valley Traffic Division later indicated that the suspect drove away in a burgundy Chevy Tahoe, as NBC Los Angeles obtained from a statement. The victim, remembered by coworkers and friends as a man of faith and great responsibility, has left behind a grieving family and a community shaken by the loss and the reckless disregard for human life demonstrated by the fleeing driver.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on the crash to reach out to the LAPD Valley Traffic Division at 818-644-8000 or to call LAPD at 1-877-527-3247, as also noted by ABC7. The collective hope is that the perpetrator will be apprehended quickly, bringing a measure of justice to the bereaved family and the impacted community.
