The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is actively seeking information related to the murder of 40-year-old Irene Gonzalez, who was fatally shot in September in Lynwood. To encourage public assistance, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has authorized a $20,000 reward for details that could lead to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person or persons involved in this tragedy, as confirmed by a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
According to a statement from CBS News Los Angeles, deputies responded to an alert of gunshots on the 12500 block of Oak Street around 5:40 a.m. on September 15 where they discovered Gonzalez with a life-ending gunshot wound to her upper body, and further investigation suggested that the incident likely occurred hours earlier, around 1:55 a.m. Surveillance video pinpointed a black Toyota Corolla with tinted windows and a sunroof, last seen traveling along Long Beach Boulevard and then making its way onto Oak Street where Gonzalez was seen exiting the car before she was shot and later found dead on the sidewalk.
Gonzalez was allegedly engaging in sex work at the time of her shooting. Despite the efforts to unravel the connection between Gonzalez and her assailant, the motive remains an enigma wrapped in the tragic tapestry of an unexpected death. "She left two kids behind, and somebody cruel just took her away from them," "They need her. They need her here with us," said Gladys Rodriguez, a friend of Gonzalez's, as reported by ABC7.
The authorities are urging anyone who may have information regarding this case to come forward; anonymous tips are welcomed and can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or via their website, with the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau also available for contact at 323-890-5500, per ABC7.
