A violent incident unfolded yesterday outside a Ferndale bar, where a man has been accused of assaulting two women and stealing their vehicle. The Ferndale Police Department, in a statement on their Facebook page, reported that officers responded to the New Way Bar on Woodward Avenue just after midnight. According to The Detroit News, the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Bryan Marks from Mount Clemens, blocked the victims' car from exiting the parking lot by standing behind it.
Marks allegedly accused the women of nearly hitting another car before approaching the driver's side window, where he punched one of the victims. The passenger, trying to quickly intercede, was then assaulted and knocked unconscious. The Detroit News indicates that during this time, as the driver assisted the injured passenger, Marks seized the opportunity to flee in their car.
The pursuit of Marks ended after he lost control of the vehicle, crashing into the shrubbery at the Amoco Gas Station on Woodward near 12 Mile, according to a report by WWJ Newsradio. Marks attempted then to escape on foot, but Ferndale officers quickly apprehended him without further incident.
Marks faces two counts of carjacking, one count of fleeing a police officer, and one misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle without a license. "He was arraigned and given a $500,000 bond," as stated by WWJ Newsradio. Further, FOX 2 Detroit reports that his next court appearance is scheduled for January 2. Presently, Marks remains in the Oakland County Jail.
