A Duquesne man has been accused of opening fire on his ex-girlfriend's car in Hopewell Township. The incident, which saw Deondrae Huff, 19, allegedly shooting as the victim sat in a vehicle, prompted a swift law enforcement response to the area last Monday. According to a report by WTAE, the woman was not injured but had known Huff as someone who had previously threatened her following the termination of their relationship.
After his ex-girlfriend filed for protection from abuse, a search for Huff ensued, eventually leading sheriffs' deputies to a residence on Lee Street in McKeesport, where he was believed to frequent. His arrest was duly noted yesterday when authorities, acting on a tip suggesting that he was inside the property, arrived late in the evening and found numerous people inside, including Huff, who tried to flee from a back door. Huff was ultimately taken into custody and transported to the Allegheny County Jail, reported CBS News Pittsburgh.
The troubling circumstances leading up to the arrest were intensified by messages sent to the victim from Huff via Instagram. The victim told authorities she took screenshots of the menacing conversation, including one message stating, "You wanna post funny (expletive) we gon how funny (expletive) is when I ring dese shots off," before he would have a chance to delete them. Confirming the history of abuse and threats, the woman shared this information during her report of the shooting, as WTAE reported.
The chain of events leading up to the arrest began earlier, with Huff skipping out on a court appearance in Beaver County on Nov. 20. He was facing sentencing at the time. The subsequent attempted homicide charge added to the legal pressure mounting against him. In the days leading up to the capture, it was reported by CBS News Pittsburgh that Huff attempted an escape when police closed in on the McKeesport home where he was hiding, but the attempt was short-lived.
