A man has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal shooting in Rowan County, officials stated. The Rowan County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of gunfire last Saturday afternoon at 137 Hardy Lane in the Woodleaf area, according to QC News. On arrival, deputies discovered 45-year-old Elliot Rudolph Wilds with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save his life, he succumbed to his injuries.
The tragedy occurred just off Highway 801, roughly 10 miles northwest of Salisbury. A detailed report provided by WSOCTV indicated that police were quick to cordon off the area as a crime scene, as the investigation into the events leading up to the shooting began.
In an effort to provide immediate medical aid, a medical helicopter was called to transport Wilds from a landing zone established at the Woodleaf Fire Department. However, the intervention became unnecessary as Wilds's condition deteriorated beyond help. "Our condolences go out to the Wilds family," Captain Mark McDaniel of the RCSO lamented in a statement acquired by Salisbury Post.
The identity of the alleged shooter has not been released by authorities, nor have details surrounding the motive for the incident been made public at this time. Further information is expected as the investigation unfolds and officials continue to appeal for any witnesses to come forward.
