Early Tuesday morning in East Los Angeles, a man was shot and killed by a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy after an incident outside a 7-Eleven convenience store. Deputies responded to a call around 12:44 a.m. at the 6500 block of Olympic Boulevard about a man allegedly armed with a gun, where they encountered the suspect who then produced a handgun, leading to at least one deputy opening fire, as reported by KTLA.
An updated statement from the LASD indicated that the unidentified man was struck by the gunfire and aid was rendered until paramedics arrived to transport him to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead, a handgun was recovered at the scene and no deputies were injured during the confrontation. These actions adhere to the protocol that comes into play whenever a deputy-involved shooting occurs, as per the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept Information Bureau.
