A man was shot in the head and killed in a Southwest Philadelphia neighborhood, according to police reports. The incident took place on Wednesday night in Elmwood Park on the 2500 block of South 66th Street.

The victim, a 48-year-old man named Stephen Smith, was discovered by responding officers at around 6 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they found Smith with a gunshot wound to the head. He was swiftly transported to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by 6:23 p.m., as noted by CBS News Philadelphia. The circumstances that led to this brutal act of violence have not yet been clarified by authorities.

An altercation that escalated to deadly violence preceded the shooting, as reported by FOX 29 News. After the dispute, the shooter, whose identity remains unknown, fired multiple shots at Smith and fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Philadelphia police have neither recovered a weapon nor identified any suspects in the case. A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.
