Early this morning, on Houston’s Eastex Freeway, a 43-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross the highway. The collision happened around 12:10 a.m. near the 16701 block of North U.S. Highway 59.

According to the Houston Police Department, the pedestrian was crossing the main lanes when he was struck by a southbound black Ford Expedition. He was pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics. His identity has not been confirmed, as the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences continues its investigation.

The driver of the Ford Expedition, a 45-year-old male, was at the scene when authorities arrived; after questioning, officers found no signs of intoxication and he was subsequently released. HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer T. Johnson are continuing to look into this event.
