
Early Monday morning, tragedy struck in northern Durham as a man was found deceased in a crashed car, a victim of gunshot wounds. According to CBS 17, Durham Police officers were called to the scene near the intersection of E. Carver Street and Commons Boulevard at around 1:30 a.m. after reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered the man, fatally shot inside his crashed vehicle.
The identity of the victim was not immediately released, as the incident remained an active and ongoing investigation. As per information provided by The News & Observer, the area is known as Braggtown and has been partially closed off to facilitate the police work, shutting down East Carver Street from North Roxboro Street to Meriwether Drive. The Durham Police Department has yet to provide details about the suspect or the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
In light of the grim discovery, authorities are reaching out to the community for assistance. WRAL quoted the police urging anyone with information to get in touch with Investigator E. Gaither, with contact being made possible through a variety of channels including Crime Stoppers.
Meanwhile, the police continue to piece together evidence from the scene and are on the lookout for a suspect who remains at large.
