A fatal shooting incident in the coastal area of San Pedro has become the focus of an ongoing investigation by Los Angeles authorities. Late Wednesday night, a man was found dead from a gunshot wound under a staircase in the vicinity of Point Fermin Park. KTLA reports that the victim, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was between the ages of 30 and 35.
According to initial findings, just before midnight, the Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a 911 call reporting a medical emergency near Paseo Del Mar and Meyeler Street, where the body of the man was discovered beneath a set of stairs along the beach. Found not to be homeless, the circumstances of the shooting, such as whether it was gang-related, remain unclear.
While no information about the shooter has been released, the Los Angeles Police Department has cordoned off an area spanning West Paseo Del Mar and South Meyler Street in their search for evidence. Capt. Jamie Bennett with LAPD’s South Homicide Bureau remarked on the terrain, telling FOXLA, "The shoreline here is served by numerous steps to the beach line, it’s wooded and in an isolated area that is difficult to access."
Detectives from the LAPD Harbor Division have taken up the case, classifying the shooting as a possible homicide. A weapon, crucial to understanding the unfolding act, has not been found at the scene. The public has been urged to contribute any information they might have by contacting the LAPD South Bureau Homicide Division or the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline for those who wish to remain anonymous.
