Early yesterday morning, a dispute between neighbors in Harrison Township escalated to a police chase that ended with a 58-year-old man hospitalized after rolling his SUV, according to local law enforcement. The Macomb County Sheriff's Office reported deputies were called out around 3 a.m. yesterday. They received a complaint about a man causing a disturbance, as WWJ Newsradio detailed in their report.
Officials familiar with the case said the individual, previously known to the deputies for having outstanding felony warrants, attempted to elude law enforcement. After being sighted driving a GMC Yukon on Joy Boulevard, he ignored deputies' signals to stop, said the sheriff's office. The debris from the crash was strewn across a front yard as deputies found the Yukon on its roof after it had rolled, captured by dashcam footage reported by FOX 2 Detroit.
The chase resulted in the suspect losing control of the vehicle twice. Initially, he entered a ditch and managed to reenter the road, but ultimately rolled the vehicle while attempting to speed away in the opposite direction. As reported by WWJ Newsradio, deputies momentarily lost sight of the man during the pursuit before the accident occurred.
Harrison Township Fire Department responded to the scene, and the suspect was moved to a local hospital. His condition has not been released, and investigators believe that alcohol played a role in the events leading to the crash.
