The search for a driver who brazenly rammed a state police cruiser after failing to adhere to a police stop in Boston was ongoing. The ordeal, which took place on Friday night in the city's Roxbury neighborhood, led to the hospitalization of a state trooper and prompted a manhunt involving both local and state law enforcement, as reported by NBC Boston.
As per the details provided by NBC Boston, the incident kicked off around 8 p.m. when Massachusetts State Police engaged a Star Chase device—a pilot technology to safely track vehicles—to follow a car that didn't stop for police. Upon locating the vehicle on Thwing Street, near the Jackson Square Orange Line stop, the police cruiser was rammed several times by the suspect's vehicle.
The driver, abandoning the now-compromised vehicle, fled on foot, leading to an extensive search involving K9 units in the area. Boston 25 News reported that additional state police units and Boston police officers arrived swiftly on the scene in pursuit of the suspect.
The trooper, whose cruiser bore the brunt of the attack, was transported by EMS to a local hospital, although the extent of their injuries was not immediately disclosed. At the scene, a damaged state police cruiser stood as evidence of the confrontation, while the officers, including the police dogs, searched yielding no immediate result in finding the elusive driver, as per Boston 25 News.
While the investigation into the dramatic escapade remains underway by the Massachusetts State Police, the public has been urged to stay alert and provide any information that might aid in the capture of the fugitive driver. Both law enforcement agencies are pooling their resources in the hopes of bringing the incident to a close without further community disruption or officer endangerment.
