In an effort to improve road safety and reduce impaired driving, the Manteca Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint on Friday next week. The operation will run from 7:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. at a location within the city limits, which has not yet been revealed, according to a release on Manteca Police Department official Facebook page.

The Manteca Police Department's decision to position the DUI checkpoint is based on data identifying areas with a history of impaired driving-related crashes. This strategy aims to catch potentially intoxicated drivers and improve overall traffic safety. Traffic Officer Matt Gardette said in the release, "Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk." He emphasized that "any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety."

The Manteca Police Department emphasizes that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol. A variety of substances, including prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and legal recreational substances like marijuana, can impair a person's ability to drive safely.
