The Manteo License Plate Agency, which has been a community staple since 1997 under the operation of Rebecca Luton, will be shuttering its doors on the final day of the year. The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles' license plate agency located at 210 U.S. Hwy. 64 S., within the Island Pharmacy in Manteo, is set to close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, as Luton's contract comes to an end.

Those seeking vehicular services in Dare County will not be left in the lurch for long, however, as NCDMV is on the hunt for a new agency contractor. The deadline to apply for the contract coincides with the closing of the current agency, their hope being to open a new office in the area promptly. Nevertheless, residents will need to turn to alternative locations in the interim.

According to the NCDMV's official statement on the NCDOT website, four nearby license plate agencies will continue to offer full services, these include locations in Columbia at 106 S. Waters St., Engelhard at 34910 U.S. Hwy. 264, Elizabeth City at 1545 N. Road St., Suite E, and Moyock at 257 Caratoke Hwy. These agencies operate Monday through Friday, state holidays excepted, and cover an array of services such as vehicle registration and title transactions as well as renewal and replacement of vehicle license plates.

The NCDMV reminds North Carolinians that many vehicle-related services are available online, a convenience that extends from property tax payments to registration renewals. Those interested can initiate these services at MyNCDMV.gov. Across the state, with the Manteo agency's imminent closure taken into account, North Carolina boasts a network of 125 license plate agencies committed to serving the vehicular needs of its residents.
