As we cleanly sweep away the remainders of the holiday festivities, residents of Marysville have the opportunity to responsibly dispose of their leftover packaging materials and Christmas trees. The City of Marysville is offering a free post-holiday recycling event on January 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at a familiar venue, 1049 State Ave.—the site of the former City Hall.

This community-focused event, organized with the support of local groups such as the Marysville Sunrise Rotary and Everett Community College Environmental Action Club, aims to quickly transform holiday refuse into reusable materials. People are encouraged to bring their natural Christmas trees to be 'tree-cycled' into wood chips, these will then be used to beautify city parks and trails. In addition, items like clean Styrofoam, packing peanuts, cardboard, and clear wrapping materials are accepted for recycling.

It's not just about disposing waste—donations of nonperishable food and cash for the Marysville Community Food Bank are also welcomed at the event or online at the food bank's website. The City's announcement expresses gratitude for donations that support the local community.

Among the partners for the event are notable organizations such as Girl Scouts of Western Washington, Marysville United Methodist Church, Rotaract, Snohomish County, and Vermeer Corporation. These collaborations exemplify the community's effort to not just responsibly address post-holiday waste, but to also fortify aid for people in need. To efficiently make way for the recycling process, residents are reminded to flatten cardboard boxes and ensure that the Christmas trees are free of all decorations.
