Town & Country Market Ballard is opening a new restaurant right next door this Saturday. Field House, a concept from Seattle chef and restaurateur Ethan Stowell, debuts at the grocery store's 1400 NW 56th St location on Nov. 7, with a grand opening running from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

According to My Ballard, the celebration will include free mini ice cream cones for visitors, while supplies last. The Ballard location hasn't released its specific menu yet, though My Ballard notes that other Field House outposts have served breakfast sandwiches, scrambles, benedicts and acai bowls alongside lunch and dinner small plates like fish tacos and hot wings.

Those other locations have also offered larger plates such as salads, burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips and pizza, plus a full espresso bar and smoothies, per the same report. Whether Ballard's menu will mirror that lineup remains to be seen once the doors open.

A Concept Years in the Making

Town & Country first announced the Field House concept back in 2024, partnering with Stowell to design the menus for a series of in-store restaurants. Before Ballard, the company rolled out Field House at three other locations — Mill Creek, Lakemont and Poulsbo — and the grocery chain says it will eventually bring the concept to all of its stores.

That eventual rollout has shifted in scope over time. The Wedgwood Community Council reported in 2025 that Town & Country planned to open Field House restaurants at all of its locations by the end of that year, a timeline that has since given way to the more open-ended goal described in this week's report.

How Field House Got Its Start

When the concept first launched, Eater Seattle reported that the Mill Creek supermarket was the only Town & Country store with a Field House inside it, with Poulsbo and Lakemont expected to follow within a few months. Eater also noted that Town & Country had announced plans at the time to bring Field House restaurants to all of its supermarkets by the end of 2025.

At the Mill Creek location, the Field House concept was described by the Kitsap Sun as offering a variety of sandwiches, pizza, burgers, salads, smoothies, coffee and tea, along with house specialties like Dungeness crab cakes and fish and chips. The chain later opened a second in-store Field House in Bellevue about three months after the Mill Creek debut, according to 425 Business.

That outlet also reported that every Field House location is built within existing market space, meaning size and menu offerings will likely vary store to store. Ballard's menu had not been announced ahead of opening day.

A Ballard Institution's Long Transformation

The Ballard store has its own history of change. It rebranded from Ballard Market to Town & Country Market Ballard in 2022; Town & Country Markets traces its roots to 1957. The rebrand was part of a broader update across the chain, which 425 Magazine reported included renaming former Central Market stores in Shoreline, Mill Creek and Poulsbo under the Town & Country banner; the Ballard location was Ballard Market.

That same report said renovations were slated to continue in Shoreline in 2022, with Poulsbo and Ballard markets to follow. Now, four years later, Ballard shoppers will get their first taste of the sit-down restaurant concept that's been slowly spreading across the company's stores since 2024.
