Hawaii's largest home-grown construction outfit, Nan Inc., is pegged to transfer 49 acres of its quarried lands along with an additional 30 acres still subject to extraction, directly adjacent to the existing landfill. The county's effort to hastily secure this land emerges from a pressing necessity to prepare a dedicated site for the wildfire aftermath along with a broader view to accommodate the island's growing waste disposal needs substantially. According to the official County of Maui announcement, the council endorsed the purchase of both parcels for a total of $4 million on November 26.
