The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation is opening its doors—or rather, its parks, pools, and courts—for permit applications for the upcoming summer season. If you're aching to get your local league or school rec programs scheduled for some fun in the sun between April 16 and July 31, 2025, now's the time to take note and get your applications ready.
Details released on the county's website indicate a tight application window. For leagues hoping to secure their sports venues, the starting gun fires at 8 a.m. on Monday, January 2, with the finish line set for 3 p.m. on January 6. Schools and others seeking general-use bookings have a smaller time slot—kicking off at 8 a.m. on January 6 and shutting down on January 7 at 3 p.m.
Applications can be submitted to the DPR via email at [email protected], but if you're more inclined to a face-to-face exchange or simply miss the tactile sensation of paper, you can drop your application off in person. The DPR Permit Office operates out of an unassuming concrete outpost—the small former ticket booth in front of the War Memorial Ichiro "Iron" Maehara Baseball Stadium—while their usual digs undergo a revamp.
It should be noted that this permit application round doesn't include every type of gathering under the Maui sun. Special events, tournaments, and assemblies are playing in a different league and will need to seek permits through other avenues. For questions, or if you're in need of a guiding hand or a physical application form, the Department of Parks and Recreation is just a call away at (808) 270-7389, ready to assist with inquiries and clarifications.
