On a Wednesday evening, the Town of Collierville entered a new era as Maureen Fraser was sworn in as mayor at the Harrell Performing Arts Theatre. She succeeds a 16-year incumbency, becoming the first new leader the town has had since the late 2000s.
As reported on the Town of Collierville website, the ceremony had a distinctly small-town feel. Town Administrator Molly Mehner opened the event, and Father Scott Bahrke of the Catholic Church of the Incarnation provided an invocation, encouraging the newly sworn-in officials to consider the broader impact of their decisions.
Judge Lee Ann Pafford Dobson, a key figure in Collierville's judiciary, took the stage to highlight the importance of public service. She administered the oath to Aldermen Nick Robbins and John Stamps, who were joined by their families on stage for support.
As part of the ceremony, an engraved gavel was presented to Mayor Fraser by Molly Mehner. The reception that followed in the theatre foyer offered an opportunity for attendees to gather.
