The City of Mesquite has unveiled its 2024 Economic Development Annual Report, spotlighting an impressive $1.1 billion in finalized deals and the creation of approximately 3,500 new jobs. In what marks a boon for the city's economic landscape, the report details a series of high-profile business agreements initiated over the year. Among these are contracts with international clean energy firms Hexagon Purus and Hithium Tech USA, signaling Mesquite's expanding influence in the green technology sector.
This year's economic achievements are not limited to these heavyweight industries, with significant strides noted within local commerce as well. The Northridge Shopping Center reached full occupancy, and Town East Shopping Center saw notable investment in façade upgrades and pad site leasing. Mayor Daniel Alemán, Jr. underscored the collaborative nature of these successes, stating, "Economic development in Mesquite is a team effort," as per the City of Mesquite. "Many hours and conversations go into these achievements. We are successful because we have a wonderful team." Alemán's remarks reflect a community-centric approach to economic progress, one that cherishes the enmeshment of local business owners and the cultivation of a future-ready workforce.
Accolades for Mesquite's economic initiatives poured in throughout 2024, recognized by a range of prestigious institutions including the Dallas Business Journal and the Texas Economic Development Council. The city's proactive approach to growth and sustainability was further underscored by kudos from the American Planning Association, the Texas Downtown Association, and the Texas Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus. These acknowledgments don't just highlight present successes but underscore a solid reputation mounting within the region.
Backing this up are solid numbers, with the City's total valuation seeing an uptick from roughly $13.5 billion in 2023 to $15.3 billion the following year, as reported by the Dallas Central Appraisal District. City Manager Cliff Keheley pointed out the importance of planning in a comment shared via the City of Mesquite: "The investments we make now to expand our commercial tax base will benefit our citizens for many years to come." Underpinning Mesquite's annual reporting is a five-year Economic Development Strategic Plan, crafted with input from community volunteers, institutional partners, and leaders in the commercial real estate realm.
