The Metropolitan Police Department is in the midst of an investigation into a fatal shooting that took place in Southwest, with 19-year-old Nadir McCoy identified as the victim, as reported by MPD's official release. McCoy lost his life on Wednesday, December 4, when officers, responding to a call at around 6:31 p.m., found him shot inside an apartment on I Street.
Upon arrival at the apartment building on the 200 block of I Street, Southwest, the officers from the First District discovered McCoy unconscious and not breathing he had suffered gunshot wounds and despite the prompt response from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, they pronounced him dead at the scene; once again, the specter of gun violence has eclipsed a young life in our community. The MPD is reaching out to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information to contact them at (202) 727-9099 or to send tips via the TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
McCoy, who hailed from the Northwest section of DC, now adds to the grim tally of gun-related fatalities in the nation's capital. In an effort to stimulate community involvement in the apprehension of those responsible, the Metropolitan Police Department has put forth a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in connection with the fatal incident.
The department has yet to release further details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting, what led up to the tragic event remains a question the investigation continues, though, as detectives piece together evidence in hopes of delivering justice to McCoy and his loved ones.
