"As drivers across Michigan hit the road for the year-end holidays, they are finding slightly higher prices at the pump," said Adrienne Woodland, AAA's spokesperson. Gas prices are averaging $3.06 per gallon in Metro Detroit, with some areas like Saginaw and Lansing seeing higher prices around $3.18. Marquette offers relief at $2.98. These price hikes are linked to a decrease in crude oil stocks, which are 6% below the usual levels for this time of year, according to The Detroit News and WXYZ.
Gas prices are stabilizing as the holiday travel season drives up demand, with experts predicting prices will stay steady next week. In the Great Lakes area, prices that rose last week are likely to drop as stations compete for customers. Michigan's average gas price is a little above the national average of $3.10 per gallon but is still $12 cheaper than the highest prices last August, as reported by The Detroit News.
