Minneapolis community members have the opportunity to engage with their local representatives during the upcoming Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) Board of Commissioners meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, December 4. In a recent announcement posted to their official website, the MPRB shared that the meeting will be held in person at the Mary Merrill Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Headquarters, located at 2117 West River Road N, Minneapolis, MN 55411. The organization has indicated that while the meeting will not be broadcast live due to technical setbacks, it will be subsequently uploaded onto the MPRB YouTube channel, with a notification to be sent out once the meeting is available for viewing.
In adherence to the organization's commitment to public participation, they're offering two methods for constituents to put forward their comments. Written submissions can be sent to [email protected] before noon on December 4. For those preferring to speak their truth directly, there's an option available to sign up in person at the meeting and to directly address the board during the allocated open time, as per the MPRB. However, it has been noted that this time is strictly limited – a decree that seems to insistently respect procedure over the disordered beauty of democracy's dialogue.
As per the rules outlined in Section 2, item B, the "Open Time" segment is capped at 15 minutes total, with a maximum of three minutes per testimony. In the words of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, "the reader will end the reading when the allotted time has passed."
Moreover, potential amendments or additions to the meeting's agenda will not be left to lurk unseen until the last moment. The MPRB stipulates these must be posted by 5 pm the day before the meeting, though the precise grammar of these changes cannot be predicted. Should modifications emerge, a GovDelivery message is obligated to promptly inform the public accordingly.
