The Tavares Police Department reported on Monday that 5-year-old Jace Saunders, who his grandmother had allegedly kidnaped, has been found safe.
According to a news release from the Tavares Police, an AMBER Alert was issued for the boy after his grandmother, Kelly Day-Dasilva, was accused of taking him during a Department of Children and Families case. Officers and DCF officials initially responded to a residence on Tara Drive in Tavares yesterday to remove Jace from a relative's care, FOX 35 Orlando reported. However, when they arrived, the boy was not present and was believed to be on a golf cart ride with family friend Mitchell Morris, who, when called by the police, passed the child to Day-Dasilva instead of returning him.
Police later found Jace at the Lady Lake Police Department, and Day-Dasilva is now in custody. Details about their whereabouts while they were missing have not been disclosed. The Tavares Police have announced plans to hold a news conference to provide updates.
Furthermore, the Tavares police said Jace's parents had been arrested for interference with child custody due to their lack of cooperation in locating their son, WFTV reported.
