The city of Moberly has landed a $62,500 grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. This funding is aimed at assisting in the creation of a facility plan pivotal for evaluating the possibility of a new sewer connection for the Orton Lane area, prioritizing the linking to the existing city wastewater system. Such a plan is fully covered by the grant and is expected to be finalized by December 2025, according to details released by the department.
Under the banner of the Clean Water State Revolving Fund Regionalization Incentive Grant, the initiative lends a helping hand to municipalities, incentivizing them to construct infrastructure that bolsters small and often struggling facilities. Strained by scanty financial and technical resources, these smaller entities struggle to upgrade and manage their wastewater treatment capacities to satisfy stringent regulations.
In a statement obtained by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Dru Buntin, director of the department, emphasized the growing necessity for inventive thinking and fostering new partnerships for community development. "Projects like this one will help protect public health and the environment, which helps improve the quality of life for Missourians," Buntin remarked, underscoring the significance of such endeavors.
The department has pledged its ongoing support to Missourian communities in upgrading their water and wastewater infrastructures. Funding sourced both from the state and significant contributions from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency enable them to support qualified communities. For those seeking further insights on available water-related funding opportunities, more information can be found on the department's website.
