A fatal shooting took place at M&S Market on Pelton Avenue in Modesto last Saturday night. The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office reported that an employee shot a 24-year-old Hispanic man. The victim was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead early the following morning around 4:45 a.m. The investigation is ongoing, as stated by ABC10.
Initial findings from the Sheriff's Office indicate that a 28-year-old store employee, involved in a fight with several individuals, retrieved a firearm and shot at least once, hitting the victim. The incident was linked to a restraining order and a no-trespass letter against the victim, although neither had been enforced at the time. The store employee was listed as the protected party, while the deceased was named as the restrained individual, as reported by KCRA.
The major crimes unit of the sheriff's office is continuing its investigation into the incident that led to a fatal outcome. No arrests have been made so far. The Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office is reviewing the evidence to determine if charges are warranted. Authorities are asking for any potential witnesses to come forward and provide information.
