
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation's Ride On bus service was ranked second in the nation in the 2024 Riders Choice Award's Most Popular Agency category. The ranking is based on a survey by Transit App, which collected responses from over 103,000 transit riders nationwide. The rankings reflect which agencies riders would most likely recommend, according to the Montgomery County.
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich noted the improvements in services like Ride On extRa, Ride On Flex, and the Flash Bus Rapid Transit. The county’s bus system, with over 80 routes, saw a 20 percent increase in ridership, ranking second nationally among systems serving 15 to 50 million riders annually. Montgomery County Department of Transportation Director Chris Conklin praised the bus operators, saying, "This award is a testament to our bus operators. They are a dynamic group who care about people, and it shows. They work hard to keep Montgomery County moving."
Montgomery County riders can use the Ride On Trip Planner app, available on Apple and iOS devices. Bus fare is $1, and monthly passes cost $22.50. Seniors 65+, people with disabilities, and youth 18 and under ride for free with a special SmarTrip card.
