Montgomery County leaders are rallying to keep the community informed and supported with the United in Service and Support Community Resource Fair this weekend. According to a press release from the Montgomery County Government's official website, the event is set to take place on Sunday, Dec. 8, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Executive Office Building in Rockville. It's a move that underscores the local administration's commitment to accessibility of services for its residents, particularly in anticipation of upcoming changes at the federal level.
Bringing together community service providers, this free resource fair is poised to offer attendees a spectrum of information spanning public health and wellness, reproductive rights, and rights awareness. "As we prepare for the change in federal administration, our first priority is to the residents of Montgomery County and to continue the work of being a welcoming and inclusive community," Council President Kate Stewart said, as per the Montgomery County press release. The event is part of a broader strategy to preempt potential disruption from federal policy shifts by focusing on local service continuity.
Members of the Montgomery County Council, including Council President Kate Stewart and Councilmember Andrew Friedson, together with County Executive Marc Elrich, have sent a message of unity and resilience. "We will not let anything said or done in Washington, D.C. undermine the progress we have made or eliminate the protections and services we provide for our community members," Friedson declared, signalling a commitment to the county's values. County Executive Marc Elrich mirrored this stance, emphasizing local steadfastness despite federal changes. Elrich stated, "We are focused on delivering the services that people need and this event is the beginning of letting our residents know that we are the same community, despite what happens in Washington, D.C."
Practical service delivery is key to the fair's mission, ensuring residents know who to approach for aid. The location at 101 Monroe Street is accessible by bus and Metro, with the Rockville Station of Metro's Red Line being the nearest transit stop. Offering a further nod to logistic support, Montgomery County residents who opt for Ride On bus service to the fair can do so at no cost between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. For those driving, free parking is available at the Council Office Building garage and the juror parking lot located off East Jefferson Street.
