Mount Juliet's vigilant use of technology has led to the capture of two wanted individuals, one for a violent rape charge and another for domestic assault. According to a WSMV report, both arrests took place yesterday and were made possible by the city's license plate recognition (LPR) system.
The first incident involved a 42-year-old Columbia man, identified by the Mt. Juliet Police Department (MJPD) as a “violent rape suspect,” who was apprehended after the Guardian Shield LPR alerted officers to his whereabouts as he traversed the area near the county line along Central Pike. “This arrest highlights the importance of advanced technology in keeping our community safe, and we’re thankful for the tools that help us serve and protect,” stated MJPD in an announcement retrieved by Mt. Juliet Police’s X post. The suspect was also found armed with a handgun at the time of his arrest.

Merely a few hours later, a second man, aged 33 from Nashville, was also detained due to an LPR alert. As per a WKRN article, this individual faced warrants for domestic assault and stalking—a situation reportedly diffused quickly thanks to the timely intervention by the police through the LPR system.
A statement quoted by the WKRN reiterates their commitment: “Our community’s continued support and investment in advanced technology like #MJGuardianShield enable us to keep our community safe, and we are sincerely grateful.” The names of the apprehended suspects have not been released, highlighting the department's protocol for such sensitive cases.
