Yesterday morning, violence once again pierced the routine of public transit in Brooklyn when a 25-year-old MTA bus passenger was shot in the neck. The bullet, police said, tore through the bus's windshield near Hegeman Avenue and Rockaway Avenue around 1:30 a.m., as reported by The New York Post. The bus was effectively taken out of service as the NYPD took over the scene for investigation. The injured man was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, and while his identity has not been disclosed to the public.

Further details from ABC 7 New York, informed that the shooting incident occurred near Hegeman Avenue and Thomas S. Boyland Street. Concurrently, people were reportedly shooting at each other outside the bus.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time such an incident has disrupted the city's bus service. Last year, three individuals faced injuries when a bullet entered a BX4 bus, and in 2021, two passengers were wounded in Queens under similar circumstances. "As soon as the light changed and I was leaving the bus stop, I heard a gunshot," bus driver Jose Pabon recounted to The Post after the 2023 Bronx incident. "I thought it was a gunman on my bus, that’s how loud it was.”

At this time, authorities continue to search for the individuals involved in the gunfire that left an MTA bus passenger wounded.
