The incident, which occurred just before 1 a.m. on Thursday, involved an adult male sustaining non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting took place following an escalated argument between two female customers and the perpetrator, as reported by the official Facebook account of the City of New Bedford Police Department.
According to the Police Department's post, the confrontation began inside the establishment when two women were physically assaulted by the suspect, who subsequently exited the premises, it was at this time that the victim, who was approaching from a nearby parked vehicle, encountered the suspect resulting in an exchange of words, which led to the suspect drawing a firearm and shooting him. Detective Mohammad Mir played a key role in apprehending the assailant, Pedro Javier Gonzalez Olmo, a 31-year-old resident of Clark Street and a licensed gun owner, who was then charged with multiple offenses including assault and battery, assault by means of a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and improper storage.
Gonzalez Olmo's arrest was effectuated without incident later that evening, and authorities have since confiscated his weapons.
