Montrose's boutique hotel scene has expanded with the opening of Hotel Saint Augustine, a new property from Austin's Bunkhouse Hotels. Located near the Menil Collection, the hotel features a design inspired by the early modernist works of Louis Kahn and Rudolph Schindler, creating a serene and garden-like atmosphere for guests, as noted by CultureMap.

The complex, which is spread across two acres and comprises five buildings connected by catwalk-style walkways, has been integrated to almost seamlessly complement the adjacent cultural and educational institutions. "For us, Hotel Saint Augustine offers a chance to become part of a neighborhood that deeply aligns with the Bunkhouse ethos," Tenaya Hills, Bunkhouse senior VP of design and development, told CultureMap. The hotel features a courtyard and Augustine Lounge that are open to the public.

Hotel Saint Augustine's homage to architectural and design icons is present throughout the property. As reported by the Houston Chronicle, the hotel's interior references Charles James and resonates with the spirit of the De Menil's personal interior designer. From vintage furniture to a bar with no stools to expedite a natural patina, the atmosphere reflects a calculated blend of history and modernity.

With rates starting at $429 per night, the hotel boasts over 50 percent of the rooms featuring balcony or terrace spaces. The thoughtful in-room amenities and green-tiled, marble bathrooms add to the cultivated luxury. "There's no art on the walls." He continued, "That's because it's all around us, from the Menil to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston," Omar Abreu, the hotel's general manager, told the Houston Chronicle. The decision to omit traditional in-room art is aimed at encouraging guests to explore the cultural offerings of the surrounding neighborhood.

Hotel Saint Augustine will introduce Perseid, an all-day bistro, in January. The restaurant, led by award-winning chef Aaron Bludorn, will offer service to both the hotel lounge and in-room dining, reflecting the local character and culinary traditions of the area.
