In a move to support those affected by recent natural calamities, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has launched a new Disaster Recovery Center (DRC). It is situated within the bounds of the Lee Davis Community Resource Center at 3402 N. 22nd St., Tampa, FL. The DRC initiative began today and will offer its services until 7 p.m., aiming to assist residents in acquiring federal aid post-disaster.
The center, which operates Mondays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., is available to all, regardless of their residency in Hillsborough County. According to an announcement on the Hillsborough County newsroom website, assistance will be provided to those looking to apply for aid, update their applications, and become informed on disaster loans and other resources. In addition, the DRC will serve as a venue for appealing denial letters, case-closed letters, or requesting additional funds. However, Sundays will find these facilities closed to the public.
Residents who cannot visit the center have alternatives for submitting their applications. FEMA encourages homeowners and renters to apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, or through the FEMA app. For those who may prefer it, a phone application method is also available at (800) 621-3362 where lines remain open daily, offering support in most languages. Moreover, an accessible video detailing the application process is also provided by FEMA.
In conjunction with the DRC, two Multi-Agency Resource Centers have also been established to further support the community. Located at the Gandy Boat Ramp, 5108 W. Gandy Blvd., Tampa, FL, and the Bloomingdale Regional Public Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico, FL, these centers are staffed with personnel from federal, state and regional partners, including nonprofit agencies. They operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, aiding individuals, families, as well as businesses and nonprofits affected by Hurricanes Milton and Helene. The goal is to provide comprehensive assistance and aid visitors in completing their applications.
Those interested in locating other DRCs can do so by going to fema.gov/drc or by texting "DRC" followed by their Zip Code to 43362.
