Residents of Nocatee can now pour themselves a glass of water without fear, as JEA has successfully repaired a broken water main and lifted the boil water advisory that had been in place since Friday. The rupture, which disrupted water services and sent locals scrambling for bottled water, was amended on Saturday morning, JEA confirmed to Action News Jax.
The initial break, reported just after 8:30 p.m. by several residents, occurred on the Nocatee Parkway just east of U.S. 1 leaving residents without water to drink, clean, to quench their thirst for nearly 10 hours, during this period, a JEA crew worked tirelessly through the night to stem the outage and restore service as quickly as possible. Local supermarket Publix on Crosswater Parkway became a temporary oasis, although it couldn’t keep up with the demand and eventually sold out of water—First Coast News reported on the community's scramble for hydration.
The cause of the break remained a mystery initially. JEA urged residents to check their emails, voicemail, and text messages diligently for updates regarding the boil water notice, which strove to ensure the health and safety of the community amidst uncertain water quality—according to statements provided by JEA to local news outlets.
Today at 6:40 a.m., following extensive repairs and the necessary water quality testing, JEA confidently announced that the water was clear of any contaminants, and lifted the boil water advisory for all affected Nocatee customers east of U.S. 1— excluding Austin Park, Woodland Park, Walden Chase, and Greenleaf Communities, the advisory removal signified not just the repair of a pipeline but the restoration of normalcy.
