An Ohio resident is facing serious charges after he was caught with a gun in his backpack at Pittsburgh International Airport's TSA checkpoint. Allegheny County Police stated yesterday that Steven Lapp, 47, from Millersburg, Ohio, was apprehended when the handgun was discovered during a routine screening.
WPXI reported that Lapp did not possess a valid concealed carry permit during his arrest. As a result, the 47-year-old now faces a felony charge for carrying a firearm without a license, a serious offense that can carry steep consequences.
Incidents like these often disrupt airport operations, causing temporary security line closures and travel delays. According to an Audacy report, Lapp's firearm marks the 40th intercepted this year, approaching last year's record of 44 firearms found at the airport.
With the current pace of firearms detection, Pittsburgh International is verging on an unwanted milestone. This year's count is uncomfortably close to surpassing the highest number in the airport's history. If convicted of the felony charge, Lapp could face legal repercussions and a fine of up to $10,000.
