The National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma, has issued a Dense Fog Advisory that will remain in effect until 11 AM CST Friday, warning residents of visibility one quarter mile or less dense fog across significant portions of the state, including central, east central, northern, northwest, southeast, southern, southwest, and western Oklahoma areas, according to their latest advisory.
Residents in cities such as Yukon, Oklahoma City, Norman, and Lawton should expect the fog to create potentially hazardous driving conditions throughout the advisory period; the NWS advises drivers to slow down, use headlights, and maintain a safe following distance, the conditions are particularly treacherous because the heavy fog is reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less making it difficult for travelers to navigate the roads safely.
The weather forecast, as provided by the NWS, also indicates that today will have patchy dense fog before noon, then becoming mostly cloudy with a high near 57, calm winds are expected to become southerly at around 6 mph come morning, showing a slight reprieve from the still and fog-laden night.
Further predictions for the weekend include increasing clouds with a low around 45 degrees tonight, and a 20 percent chance of showers before noon on Saturday, after which it's expected to clear up the weekend bringing partly sunny skies and a high near 59, such is the nature of Oklahoma's weather that can quickly shift from fog-blanketed mornings to clear sunlit afternoons.
Looking ahead into next week's start, citizens can anticipate sunnier climes with a high near 67 on Monday, and a continual trend of mostly clear nights and sunny days leading into the New Year, as the dense fog that's set in is but a temporary veil over Oklahoma's typically varied December weather pattern.
