An incident on Fleming Way in Olivehurst, which involved the Yuba County Sheriff's Office, resulted in the arrest of an armed suspect on Thursday night. As detailed in a Facebook post by the sheriff's department, deputies were dispatched after a 9-1-1 call from a woman pleading for the man she was arguing with to put down his gun at around 8:55 p.m.

Upon arrival at the 4700 block of Fleming Way, deputies found 30-year-old Andrew Shrader, heavily intoxicated, and brandishing a firearm. Efforts by the officers to calmly defuse the situation were unsuccessful, prompting one deputy to take the decisive action to shoot his weapon when Shrader began to reach for his gun. Shrader was not struck by the gunfire, but was subdued by less lethal means before being detained.

Shrader, suffering minor injuries from the confrontation, will be booked into Yuba County Jail for multiple charges including threats to a peace officer, carrying a loaded firearm in public, possession of metal knuckles, and public intoxication. The sheriff's office provided the specifics of the charges, which include 71(a)(1) PC, 25850 PC, 21810 PC, and 647(f) PC.

The deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave, a routine measure following such an incident. Meanwhile, the Yuba-Sutter Officer-Involved Shooting & Critical Incident Investigation Team is already actively investigating the shooting. The team, according to the sheriff's department's statement, is comprised of seasoned law enforcement personnel and spearheaded by the Chief Investigators of both the Yuba and Sutter County District Attorneys' Offices. This ensures that outside investigators can to thoroughly review the facts and circumstances of the deputy's use of force.
